I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins.
Isaiah 43:25 NKJV
We all have broken God’s laws and commandments, and in our own strength, we were not able to fulfill the righteous requirement of God’s laws and commandments. We all had a certificate of debt (due to sin) which we could never pay, and this certificate showed us that we were guilty before a holy righteous God. But, the good news is that Jesus took all our sin upon Himself when He died on the cross, so that we can be forgiven and set free from the power of sin. The bible also tells us that Jesus blotted out our sins, completely forgave us and cleared our record. This means that we are no longer guilty – Jesus took guilt out of the way. Thank You Lord Jesus!
And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements (certificate of debt) that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
Colossians 2:13-15 NKJV
The above-mentioned Scripture helps us understand that Jesus took the handwriting of requirements which was against us and nailed it to the cross. His precious blood has blotted out our record of guilt (the certificate of debt which was against us). By doing this, He took the weapon of guilt out of Satan’s hand. The word ‘disarmed’ means to have taken away someone’s weapons, therefore rendering them powerless. Scripture tells us that Satan is the accuser of the brethren (Revelation 12:10), and while we were still slaves to sin, we were guilty of sin. But thanks to our great God, because He paid our price and took away our guilt so that Satan can no longer accuse us to the Father.
Romans 5:9 helps us understand that we have been justified by the blood of Jesus. The word ‘justified’ means that we have been declared righteous and acquitted. The word acquitted means to free someone from a criminal charge by verdict of not guilty.
Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.
Romans 5:9 NKJV
When we repent from a place of godly sorrow, and completely turn away from sin, God has promised us in His Word that not only does He forgive us, but He also forgets our sins. We know that the blood of Jesus has washed us clean and that we wear His perfect righteousness. Thank You Lord!
God has forgiven us, but have we truly forgiven ourselves?
Holding on to our past mistakes and sins can cause us to carry a heavy burden that will hurt us in the long run. Once we have repented, Jesus no longer remembers our past sins. May I encourage you to forgive yourself, let go of the past and move forward. This will give you so much peace and allow you to fully enjoy the liberty we have in Christ.
We overcome Satan by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony
Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.
Revelation 12:10-11 NKJV
Even though the weapon of guilt has been taken out of the enemy’s hand, he still likes to use our past against us in an attempt to bring us back into guilt, shame and condemnation. The enemy will throw accusations our way, but Scripture tells us that we overcome him by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. Therefore, it is imperative that we know what the blood of Jesus has done for us so that we can fight the enemy using the sword of the Spirit (the Word of God).
I’d like to offer you some examples of how we can use the Sword of the Spirit to put the enemy to flight, should we be attacked with accusations of guilt and condemnation:
- Thank You Jesus that Your blood has cleansed me from all sin and unrighteousness (1 John 1:7-9).
- Thank You Jesus that Your blood has cleansed my conscience (Hebrews 9:14).
- Thank You Jesus that your blood has wiped out all my sins, and my guilt has been taken away. (Colossians 2:13-15)
- Thank You Lord that you have forgiven me, and You no longer remember my sins. (Jeremiah 31:34)
- Thank You Lord that I have been justified by the blood of Jesus (Romans 5:9). I now wear His perfect righteousness.
The last bit of advice I would like to offer with regards to overcoming guilt, is to stand your ground. Satan will often test us to see if we really believe what we are professing. When Satan sees that we are immoveable in this truth, he will back down, and we would have won the battle. This is how we overcome him. The battle may last a while, but persevere and remain steadfast. Keep standing on your faith and on the truth of God’s eternal word. Remember also that your old man was crucified with Christ. That old man (the old sinful nature) was buried with Christ in baptism, and you were raised as a new creation in Christ. You are not who you used to be – stand in this truth.
I pray this message encourages you to stand strong against the devices of the wicked one. May God strengthen your heart and give you boldness to stand firm in your faith in Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
Blessings to you all
