Strength in remembering God’s goodness and faithfulness.

The other place I continually draw strength from is remembering God’s goodness and faithfulness.

A few years ago I, faced a huge spiritual battle which seemed impossible to overcome. At that time I was struggling with demonic strongholds, and because I didn’t understand them I didn’t know how to overcome them. I was desperately looking for help and answers from the Lord because I had come to realize that He was my only hope for salvation.

I will always be so grateful to the Lord, because He heard my cry for help and He taught me many things which enabled me to overcome strongholds and experience victory in my life. He led me to the answers I was desperately seeking, gave me a very good understanding of what I was going through and why, and He gave me the solution I needed to overcome that enemy.

We all go through trials, temptations, hardships and testing, but during these challenging times the Lord reminds us to remember His faithfulness to us in the past. We can look back and see how the Lord brought us through difficult situations, or gave us victory over our enemies, or made a way where there seemed to be no way. We remember how He alone did for us what we could not have done for ourselves. When we remember the Lord’s goodness and faithfulness, it gives us strength to endure whatever we are currently going through, because we know that He will come through for us again.

Psalm 77 is a consoling memory of God’s redemptive works. You may like to read through the whole Psalm at a time of your convenience. The psalmist appears to be in a time of great difficulty and trouble, yet He makes a conscience decision to remember the greatness and faithfulness of the Lord.

And I said, “This is my anguish; but I will remember the years of the right hand of the Most High.” I will remember the works of the Lord; surely I will remember Your wonders of old. I will also meditate on all your work, and talk of Your deeds. Your way, O God, is in the sanctuary; who is so great a God as our God? You are the God who does wonders; You have declared Your strength among the peoples. You have with Your arm redeemed Your people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah

Psalm 77:10-15 NKJV

It is good for us to remember God’s redemptive work in our lives too, and God in His Word also instructs us to remember His faithfulness. We see an example of this from the book of Deuteronomy. It was time for God’s people to enter into the Promised Land which He had prepared for them. God instructs His people to be brave as they enter the Promised Land, and He strengthens their heart by instructing them not only to remember, but to remember well His goodness and faithfulness in the past. God further strengthens their hearts by promising them that He will once again be faithful.

If you say in your heart, ‘These nations are greater than I; how can I dispossess them?’ – you shall not be afraid of them, but you shall remember well what the LORD your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt: the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs and the wonders, the mighty hand and the outstretched arm, by which the LORD your God brought you out. So shall the LORD your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid.

Deuteronomy 7:17-19 NKJV

I pray that this message will encourage you to hold on to God’s faithfulness, no matter what you may be going through. He is a very good Father. Make a conscience decision to remember a time when you experienced His goodness and faithfulness and let that carry you through the more difficult days. May I also encourage you to start thanking Him now already (in faith) for making a way where there seems to be no way. This is how we show God that we have faith in Him and that we choose to trust Him. Blessings to you all in Jesus precious name.
