The powerful weapon of prayer

Prayer is one of the most powerful weapons which God has given us. It can destroy the enemy’s attacks, as well as the weapons the enemy tries to use against us. The Lord opened my eyes to this understanding recently, and I would love to share with you what He has taught me.

A few days ago, I heard the Holy Spirit say to me, “Ask for a revelation.” I proceeded to pray as instructed, and then waited for the Lord. Later that day, I read the following Scripture in Ezekiel:

Then He [God] called out in my hearing with a loud voice, saying, “Let those who have charge over the city draw near, each with a deadly [or destroying] weapon in his hand.” And suddenly six men came from the direction of the upper gate, which faces north, each with his battle-ax [or shattering weapon] in his hand.

Ezekiel 9:1-2 NKJV

My eyes were immediately drawn to the words, “deadly/destroying weapon” and “battle-ax”. The King James version specifically says, “every man a slaughter weapon in his hand.” When I read this, I immediately thought to myself, “I want one of those!” I then wondered if this ‘weapon of destruction’ was a reference to the sword of the Spirit, but then thought it probably wasn’t, because the NKJV specifically says, ‘battle-ax’.

Later that night, after I had been asleep for about an hour, I woke up feeling very restless. This is not a typical restless feeling someone would get if they had a lot on their minds, or were just feeling unsettled. It is a tormenting restlessness you can feel in your body, where you cannot relax enough to fall asleep. I have had this kind of spiritual attack a few times over the last few years, so I already knew that I needed to pray against the attack, and call on the name of Jesus for help – which I did.

Acts 2:21 tells us that “Whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved [delivered and protected]. After a few minutes of praying against the attack, I felt the attack leave and the Lord’s peace come over me. Thank You Jesus! After this happened, I thanked the Lord and went back to sleep.

Later that night, I woke up to another spiritual attack. But this time, it was itching skin. Itching skin can be somewhat normal, except if the itching feels unnatural, tormenting and on-going. Once again – I have experienced this kind of attack before, so I knew that I needed to pray against it, as well as pray against a spirit of torment. Immediately I felt the attack stop, and that’s when the Lord connected the dots for me.

He immediately gave me the understanding that the “weapon of slaughter” or “destroying weapon” I had read about earlier that day in Ezekiel 9:1-2 had a hidden spiritual meaning. Prayer is this weapon of destruction. When we call on the name of the Lord for help and pray against the attacks from the enemy, the Lord responds to our prayer by destroying the enemy’s weapons so that they can no longer use them against us. We experience deliverance from the attack and we receive the Lord’s protection. Thank You Jesus!

If I may offer some advice: if something feels “off” – it probably is. I have come to understand that there are demons of torment who attack people with the intention of tormenting them, either in their minds or with an attack on their bodies. I believe that the restlessness I felt was also an attack from a tormenting spirit.

At this point, you may like to take a moment to pray and ask God to reveal to you if there is any area of your life where the enemy keeps attacking you. Perhaps you have also been attacked with some sort of physical or mental torment. Mental torment can even include things like tormenting thoughts. The Lord is faithful, and if there is something – He will show you.

Our God is mighty indeed, and He loves us so dearly. There is nothing too hard for Him. He has given every single one of us this destroying weapon to use against the enemy’s attacks. If at any time you are attacked by the enemy, may I encourage you to use the weapon of prayer. Call on the name of Jesus and pray against the attack from the enemy. The Lord is faithful, and He will protect you and deliver you from the attack.

Thank You Jesus, we give you all the praise and the glory. We love You Lord.
